Session I – Democracy in the Zionist Movement and the Early State of Israel

Instructor: Prof. David Myers

Historian David N. Myers (UCLA) will open the course by exploring with participants what we mean when we talk about democracy. He will then move to a discussion of the foundations of Israeli democracy by examining the differing visions of governance in the Zionist movement and then in the fledgling state of Israel. The session will also discuss some of the founding institutions of the Israeli government.
